COFFEE TYPES
WHAT ARE PRODUCED
The beans that we grow with the love and effort of our entire work team is Costa Rica 95 Arabica, Bourbon and Sarchimor, mixed to achieve the taste of CAFÉ FINCA UNIÓN.
Arabica coffee is one of the two main species of coffee grown globally (the other is C. Canephora, commonly called robusta). Arabica is by far the dominant species in the region, and is considered to produce the highest quality of the drink. The Arabica species is made up of many different varieties or cultivars.
The variety Costa Rica 95 (CR95) is a variety with a smaller size, conical shape, short branches, red fruits, intense bronze shoots and resistant to rust.
The Bourbon variety has as its main characteristics that its plants produce 20% to 30% more than the Typica variety, but they still have a smaller harvest than most varieties. It has a less conical shape with more secondary branches. The leaves are wide and wavy at the edges. The fruit is relatively small and dense. Cherries ripen quickly and are at higher risk of falling during high winds or rain. The best results for Bourbon coffee are made at an altitude of more than 1,000 m.
The Sarchimor variety comes from a cross between two varieties: Villa Sarchi (from the bourbon coffee family), and the Híbrido de Timor. It was called Villa Sarchi because it was extracted from coffee plantations located in the town of Villa Sarchí in Costa Rica in the mid-20th century. On the other hand, the Timor Hybrid is a variety that has been used to improve resistance to Rust.
The names of Villa Sarchí + Híbrido de Timor were combined to finally call it Sarchimor. This variety has become popular in many farms in the American continent and the Indian subcontinent for its excellent cup, productivity and tolerance to some pests.
